I originally posted this page in November of 2012, and I came across some video which made me nostalgic. So I decided to pull this page out of drafts and plant it back on my blog. This is an attempt to write a post about it and see if I can link it back to this page. Humm, we shall see.

Crosley Portable Turntable |
This is a Crosley portable turntable, and it is for my soon-to-be seven year old daughter. I remember my old Fisher-Price, and well, it was never this sleek and cool. Vinyl is making a comeback and it does not feel retro to me. It feels like right now, and right now is about to turn SEVEN. Sooo alive!
My daughter asked for a record player after I pulled out my 45 collection and let her play with them. I bit back the urge to say no because they are thick and almost bombproof and to me... never going to see the light of day again... to hoard them was to be selfish...Plus, she was listening to everything from Queen to Kenny Rogers...
My daughter has always loved to dance and sing to our jam sessions on turntables. I've even let her use my Technics 1200s under strict supervision, because she has always been fascinated with my platters.
This was different... I let her load and touch the records herself, and the speed fit her attention span (no pun intended). She spent hours digging in that old dusty box of records like she discovered gold...so I am going to swallow my pride and let her have them ...tons of 45 records to spill everywhere and make my hair stand on end.
She isn't going to be thumping her bedroom walls with a CD. She's going to show all her friends something they really haven't ever seen before.
Then, she will say WAIT! There's more... and beg to come down to play with the big boys with the amp that would burn the house down unattended. *Smile* Some people fight with their kids about their rooms. It will be over not putting records back in sleeves..
Vinyl is not for the eccentric.
It's for little girls that want to play that Funky Music. Be DJ Duchess on the Decks, except my baby.
The only thing retro about this story is the age-old idea of bonding.
Visa may ask what's in your wallet, but I want to know: What's spinning on your table?
